Margaret Sayers Carter

Margaret Sayers Carter “Aunt Sissy” of Demopolis passed away on June 1, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents John J. and Bessie (Cook) Sayers, her husband, Wickham Reginald Carter, her children, Wickham Reginald Carter, Jr., Evelyn Carter Brady, Nell Carter Owensby, her brother, Sam Mike Sayers, and sister Dora Helen McAlpine.

She is survived by Paul S. Owensby, her grandchildren, Grace (Bob) Bentley, Joe (Angela) Brady, Wick (Robin) Carter, Suzanne (Wynne) Echols, and Laurie Owensby Young, and nephews, Robert (Betty) McAlpine, Mike (Anna) McAlpine, and Bo (Micki) McAlpine.

She is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren, fifteen great-great grandchildren, six great nephews, and three great nieces.

Margaret was born June 26, 1918 in Camden, Alabama.

She was a school teacher in Myrtlewood, Alabama and retired from the United States Postal Service. She was a long time member of the Myrtlewood United Methodist Church and was also a Bryan W. Whitfield pink lady for over forty years.

Graveside service will be held Friday, June 3 at 10:00 A.M at Riverside Cemetery in Demopolis, Alabama with Rev. David Murray officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Myrtlewood United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 130, Myrtlewood, Alabama 36763.
