Marengo to receive public, individual aid for hurricane damage

Marengo County learned Thursday that it has been approved for assistance after FEMA inspectors surveyed the area to determine damage from Hurricane Zeta.

The word came after a phone call between President Donald Trump and Gov. Kay Ivey. Marengo is one of several Alabama counties impacted by Hurricane Zeta that has been approved for both public and individual assistance.

Kevin McKinney, EMA director for the Marengo, said the county will be reimbursed a percentage of the cost of debris removal under the public assistance portion.

Property owners who had damage from the storm now can contact FEMA to register for individual assistance. The number to begin the process is 800-621-3362.

“On my call with President Trump earlier today, he assured me that we could consider our request for federal aid following Hurricane Zeta done, and he quickly delivered,” said Gov. Ivey.

“Within hours of our call, FEMA approved our request for public and individual assistance. This will go a long way in providing the people impacted by Zeta the help they need.”
