Marengo schools shift region in reclass, Demopolis feels biggest change

The AHSAA released its new seven-class system Wednesday. The reshuffle sees Demopolis move to the new Class 5A, Region 4 in football.

The Tigers will now compete in region play with Calera, Central Tuscaloosa, Dallas County, Helena, Jemison, Sumter Central and Wilcox Central.

The region is a stark contrast from the previous two seasons in which Demopolis faced Satsuma, Saraland, Citronelle, Selma, Sumter Central, Greenville and Jackson.

Basketball, baseball and softball will see Demopolis in Area 6 with Dallas County, Sumter Central and Wilcox Central.

Volleyball will see Demopolis grouped with Dallas County and Sumter Central in Area 6. Soccer has Demopolis in with Parker, Pleasant Grove and Central-Tuscaloosa in Area 4.

In golf, Demopolis will draw Alabama Christian, B.C. Rain, Brewbaker Tech, Escambia County, Faith Academy, Jackson, Rehobeth, St. Paul’s, Sidney Lanier, Vigor and Williamson in Section 1.

Demopolis High’s tennis team will compete in Section 2 with Greenville, Headland, LAMP, Montgmery Catholic, St. James, Trinity Presbyterian and B.T.W. Magnet.

The new grouping for Demopolis track in Section 1 includes B.C. Rain, Charles Henderson, Escambia County, Eufaula, Faith Academy, Greenville, Jackson, St. Paul’s, Sumter Central, Vigor, Wilcox Central and Williamson.

Linden High will move to Class 1A, Region 4 in football where it will be part of a seven-team group that includes A.L. Johnson, Akron, Keith, Ellwood Christian, Maplesville and Sunshine.

Linden basketball will be in 1A, Area 4 with Marengo, A.L. Johnson and John Essex, which is not slated to field a football team.

Linden volleyball moves to Class 1A, Area 4 with Millry and John Essex.

Marengo High football will compete in a seven-team region in Class 1A, Region 1 with Chickasaw, Fruitdale, J.F. Shields, J.U. Blacksher, McIntosh and Millry.

Linden High track will compete in Section 1 with J.U. Blacksher, Chickasa, Ellwood Christian, Florala, A.L. Johnson, John Essex, Keith, Marengo, McIntosh, Red Level, J.F. Shields and Sunshine.

Sweet Water, which expected to drop to Class 1A, remains in Class 2A, Region 1 for football. Sweet Water’s grouping changes very little as it will compete with Choctaw County, Flomaton, Leroy, Mobile Christian, Saint Luke’s, Southern Choctaw and Washington County.

Sweet Water basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball will be in 2A, Area 2 with Choctaw County, Southern Choctaw, Sweet Water and Washington County.
