Marengo County voters choose Biden, Jones, Windham; local amendment passes

Marengo County reflected the split sentiments of the United States as voters showed a close race between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joseph Biden.

 With all but one precinct reporting as of 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, 50.32 percent of voters chose Biden, and 49.04 percent, Trump.

While Alabama overwhelming chose newcomer Tommy Tuberville as the junior senator from the state, Marengo County selected incumbent Doug Jones by 52.34 percent. Tuberville received 47.58 percent.

In a local race that affects Demopolis and the western part of the county, incumbent Jason Windham beat challenger Dan England for the District 2 seat on the County Commission. Windham won with 64.82 percent of the vote to England’s 35.18 percent.

The local amendment on the ballot to allow certain cases in Probate Court to be referred to the Circuit Court carried with 58.85 percent for to 41.15 percent against.

Probate Judge Laurie Hall said a total of 10,924 voters cast ballot in the county, what is expected to be a record turnout once all precincts report.
