Marengo County Commissioner faces theft charges

According to an official release from the Marengo County Sheriff’s Department, on Monday, April 1, Marengo County Commissioner Freddie Armstead, Sr. and his son, Freddie Lee Armstead, Jr. were arrested by the Marengo County Sheriff’s Office on five counts of Theft of Property 1st Degree.  The charges stem from vehicles being taken from the Marengo County Sheriff’s Office impound lot, according to the release.

Armstead and his son allegedly took the vehicles and sold them to a recycle center outside the county.  After a lengthy investigation, both subjects were arrested and carried before the district judge.  Bond was set at $5,000 on each count, for a total of $25,000, the release said.
