Marengo County 4-H to host chicken show and auction Oct. 8

Area youth will bring their three best chickens to show and auction on Oct. 8 at the Marengo County Extension Office in Linden, Ala. The auction, part of 4-H’s Chick Chain project, will offer chickens ready to lay and breeds selected for their laying characteristics.

Each youth participant from the seven county area received 18 chicks in the spring and has been responsible for each bird for the last 20 weeks. The project focuses on the poultry commodity group and teaches the participants responsibility, managerial skills and entrepreneurship. As a result of their hard work, each participant is able to keep the profits earned at the auction.

The Chick Chain Show will take place on Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. at the Marengo County Extension Office located at 2400 East Coats Ave. in Linden. The auction will take place at noon.
