Marengo Academy baseball sits at 8-3-2

The Marengo Academy Longhorns sit at 8-3-2 after a weekend split with Tuscaloosa Academy. Below is a rundown of each of the Longhorns’ contests thus far this season.

Marengo 6, Escambia 6

In a game that ended due to a tournament time limit Monday, Feb. 17, the Longhorns saw Brant Lewis and Kyle Friday each tally two hits. Lewis had a two-run double in the game.

Marengo 8, South Choctaw 2

Marengo grabbed its first win of the season Friday, Feb. 21 behind the arm of Micah Agee (1-0). Hayden Hall and Josh Holifield each tallied two hits. Holifield’s day included a triple and three RBIs.

Marengo 7, Wilcox 5

Holifield (1-0) picked up the win on the mound Feb. 22 on a day in which he also had two hits including a double and two RBIs.

Marengo 11, Jackson 0

The Longhorns kept the ball rolling Monday, Feb. 24 with a blowout victory that saw Friday (1-0) get his first win of the year. Friday also had three hits and two RBIs while Holifield had two doubles and three RBIs in the game.

Marengo 10, Hooper 2

Agee (2-0) continued his winning ways Tuesday, Feb. 25 when he held Hooper to just two runs. Lewis racked up three hits while Hayden Hall had a two-hit game that included a double. Holifield blasted a two-run homer in the game.

Marengo 20, Pickens 4

Marengo had no mercy for Pickens Thursday, Feb. 27 as Hayden Huckabee (1-0) got his first win of the year on the mound. Weldon Aydelott had three hits and three RBIs. Holifield had a day that included a triple, a double and five RBIs. Tait Sanford hit a home run in the contest.

Edgewood 7, Marengo 0

The Longhorns tasted defeat for the first time Friday, Feb. 28 against a vaunted Edgewood program that shut MA out. Wyatt Hale (0-1) took the loss in the game while Huckabee had two hits.

Marengo 10, Monroe 0

The Longhorns wasted no time getting back on the horse Friday, Feb. 28. After having suffered their first loss earlier in the day, MA rebounded to down Monroe 10-0. Agee (3-0) picked up the win while Holifield hit a two-run double and Sanford tallied two RBIs.

Pike 4, Marengo 3

The Longhorns suffered their second setback with a 4-3 loss to Pike Liberal Arts Saturday, March 1. Holifield (1-1) took the defeat in a game that also saw him hit a run scoring double. Sanford doubled in the contest as well.

Marengo 7, Autauga 7

For the second time this season, Marengo found itself in a tie when a tournament time limit expired Saturday, March 1. This time, the Longhorns ended up even with Autauga Academy 7-7 as they played their fourth game in two days. Aydelott and Huckabee had two hits apiece. Huckabee tripled in the game.

Marengo 3, Jackson 2

Huckabee (2-0) did the job on the mound for the Longhorns Thursday, March 6 while Lewis launched a two-run homer for the seventh Marengo win of the season.

Marengo 5, Tuscaloosa 4

The Longhorns opened a double-header Saturday with a 5-4 win over Tuscaloosa Academy. Huckabee (3-0) took the win while Lewis hit a two-run homer. The Marengo win was the first loss of the season for Tuscaloosa.

Tuscaloosa 5, Marengo 0

Friday (1-1) took the loss as Tuscaloosa Academy’s Austin Menard threw a no-hitter against the Longhorns, striking out nine batters in the process. The lone Longhorn baserunner of the game was Hayden Hall, who reached on an error.
