Longhorns sweep Macon-East tournament

1236786_10153924355050258_403138184_nCECIL — Marengo Academy (15-3-2, 1-0) worked its way to five straight wins and a Macon-East Montgomery tournament championship over the weekend.

The Longhorns opened tournament play Friday with a 15-2 win over Wilcox Academy.

Brant Lewis picked up the win on the mound. Lewis was also among a group of six players that each tallied two hits. Hayden Huckabee, Hayden Hall, Wallace Tutt, Lawson Smyly and Josh Holifield each finished with two hits in the game. Smyly had three RBIs. Huckabee hit a solo homer to open the game.

The Longhorns moved on to win a second game Friday, dropping Fort Dale Academy 8-3.

Wyatt Hale picked up the win on the mound while Kyle Friday shined at the plate. Friday went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in the first inning and a two-run homer in the second.

Marengo Academy opened play Saturday with a 17-0 skunking of Evangel Christian. Josh Holifield picked up the win on the mound. Friday, Smyly and Lewis each had two hits. Friday flashed the power again, hitting a three-run homer and a two-run shot.

The Longhorns moved on to beat Lakeside 9-7 in the second game of the day. Friday picked up the win on the mound. Huckabee went 2-for-4 with a double. Friday was 2-for-3 with a double and a two-run homer. Weldon Aydelott was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Tait Sanford was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Marengo Academy wrapped up the tournament championship with an 8-3 win over Lowndes Academy. Huckabee got the win on the mound while Hall was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Huckabee was 2-for-5 and Lewis finished 2-for-2.

The Longhorns are set to resume play Tuesday, April 1 at Patrician Academy.
