LINDEN – Marengo Academy (2-0) quickly put to rest memories of a dreadful 2011 season with its second straight win Friday night, a 57-0 thrashing of Eastwood Christian.

“It’s always good to win,” Marengo Academy head coach Robby James said. “I think it helps you build some confidence. We’re awful young. So to be able to get two wins is big. I think it helps you prepare for the next game. We haven’t done that since I’ve been there, been 2-0.”

Josh Holifield started the scoring for the Longhorns with a 2-yard touchdown run. Christian Cook later added an eight-yard scoring run. Brant Lewis connected on both extra points to make it 14-0.

Hayden Huckabee later added a 46-yard scoring sprint to push it to 20-0. Shade Pritchett then caught a 45-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Barkley. Hayden Huckabee added the two-point run to push the score to 28-0.

After a safety gave the Longhorns a 30-0 lead, Ralph Langley broke a 35-yard run for a touchdown. Myles Pritchett and Andrew Martin each scored on 2-yard runs while Weldon Aydelott scored on a 34-yard jaunt.

Pritchett had two interceptions in the game while Dalton Ehteridge recovered a fumble. Kyle Adams led the Longhorns with 12 tackles while Thomas Etheridge added nine.

“Our defense is playing well, both games really,” James said. “I don’t think (Eastwood) had but like 29 yards of offense.”
