The Linden Patriots brought a 3-0 record into their Thursday night contest against Isabella. The Mustangs were also sporting a 3-0 record. This game marked only the second meeting between the two schools, with the last coming in 2001 during the second round of the playoffs. That game was won by Linden 48-36.
When the final whistle blew on Thursday night, Linden stayed undefeated with a 32-0 win over the Mustangs.
The scoring was held to a minimum in the first half. The only score came with just over a minute left in the first quarter. Patriot quarterback Graderius Brown found Joshua Williams wide open for a 35-yard touchdown connection. The extra point attempt was good to give Linden the 7-0 lead.
Brown also accounted for the second score. He rushed the ball up the middle for a three yard touchdown run with 3:52 left in the third quarter. The extra point attempt was blocked, which left the score at 13-0 in favor of the Patriots.
With 7:42 left in the game, Douglas Johnson got on the scoring train when he rushed the ball in from four yards out. The extra point attempt by Brown was good to extend the lead to 20-0.
With Isabella driving on the ensuing possession, Linden’s Kevin Green intercepted the pass from Mustang quarterback Jarrett Baker. Green took the interception 77 yards for the score. The extra point attempt was no good to leave the score at 26-0.
Linden would add one more score late with 1:04 left on the clock to send the score to 32-0.
Linden (4-0, 3-0) will play host to the Selma Saints while Isabella (3-1, 2-1) will host Thorsby. Both games will be played next Friday.
