License approved for Red Barn; Town Hall meetings set

Demopolis City Council members Thursday granted a liquor license to Eddie and Stacey Pearson who plan to reopen The Red Barn Restaurant this month.

Stacey Pearson has operated Stacey’s café in the Demopolis Inn.

In a meeting that lasted less than 15 minutes, Mayor John Laney announced he will hold Town Hall meetings in each Demopolis district during January. All the meetings will be from 6 to 7 p.m. They are:

  • District 1: Theo Ratliff Center Jan. 20
  • District 2: St. Paul Baptist Church, Jan. 21
  • District 3: Whitfield Regional Hospital, Jan. 23
  • District 4: Christian Chapel, Jan. 27
  • District 5: Westside Elementary School, Jan. 28

The mayor also congratulated the Demopolis Fire and Rescue Department for making possible the upgrade of the ISO rating for the city from a 4 to a 3. He said after talking with several insurance agents in town, the savings to homeowners and businesses can range between three and four percent.

Cole Basinger was nominated to the Park and Recreation Board. Because Councilman Bill Meador is recuperating from surgery and was unable to attend the meeting, the vote was tabled until Jan. 16.
