Lady Tigers win in last AB

A last at-bat rally lifted Demopolis (2-3-1) to a 3-2 victory over Sweet Water (0-3) in its home opener Friday evening.DHS vs SWHS softball-9359

The Lady Tigers got a leadoff walk from Victoria Washburn in the bottom of the seventh before Riley King singled. Two batters later Danielle Tatum roped a RBI single to left that plated Washburn on a bang-bang play at the plate to tie the game.

Alexis Jones ended the game with a shot to the left side of the infield that caromed off the glove of the Lady Bulldog pitcher and allowed King to score from third.

The rally came after Sweet Water took the lead in the top of the seventh when Andrea Landrum turned a leadoff infield single into trouble by advancing to second on a passed ball and ultimately scoring on an error.

One frame earlier the Lady Tigers had pulled to a 1-1 tied when Jade Montgomery picked up a RBI with a ground ball to the left side that scored Jones from third.

Sweet Water opened the scoring in the top of the third when Shelby Thompson ripped a RBI single to score Landrum, who led off the frame with a walk before swiping second base.

Tatum picked up the win for the Lady Tigers, striking out eight batters over seven innings while scattering seven walks and five hits.

Emily Black countered for Sweet Water with three strikeouts over seven innings while surrendering three walks and seven hits.

DHS vs SWHS softball-9149Washburn and King each finished 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored for DHS. Sidney Colyar went 1-for-3 in the contest. Tatum went 2-for-4 with a RBI. Jones reached on errors three times and scored a run. Courtney Lawrence went 1-for-2. Jade Montgomery was 1-for-3 with a RBI.

Landrum finished 1-for-2 with two walks, two stolen bases and two runs scored. Thompson finished 1-for-2 with a walk and a RBI while also reaching on an error.

Grace Lewis finished 2-for-4 for Sweet Water. Alexis Wiley walked twice and stole a base. Priscilla Smith went 1-for-1 with two walks and a stolen base.

The Lady Tigers travel to Brookwood for a tournament this weekend before hosting Tuscaloosa County Tuesday.
