Lady Tigers split opening games at Gulf Coast Classic

Demopolis (12-6) split a pair of games on day one of competition in the Gulf Coast Classic II in Orange Beach Monday.

The Lady Tigers lost a four-inning affair to Westminster Christian 4-1 in their first game of the day. Westminster scored two runs in the first inning and two in the third.

Demopolis scratched a run out in the fourth inning when Abbey Latham Latham scored on a Bria Brown RBI. Latham and Brown were the only Demopolis players to record hits in the contest. Latham finished 2-for-2 while Brown was 1-for-2.

The Lady Tigers followed with a 6-5 win over Clements High School of Athens.

Natalie Tatum came on in relief for the win after pitching three and two-thirds shutout innings while allowing only two hits.

She also helped her cause by going 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a double and a run scored. Courtney Smith topped the order with a 4-for-4 game that included three RBIs. Jessica Adams went 1-for-3. Abbey Latham was 1-for-4 while Kendall Hannah scored a run.

Bria Brown finished 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Elly Brown went 2-for-2 with a run scored and a stolen base. Kayla Montz was 1-for-1 with a run scored while Holli Gandy finished 1-for-2 with one RBI.
