Lady Tigers skunk Greensboro for 16th win of season

After a week away from competition, Demopolis softball got back to work Wednesday with a 10-0 dispatching of visiting Greensboro. The Lady Tigers hung three runs on the board in each of the second and third innings and four in the fifth for the victory.

Weezie Hughes took a beanball with one out in the bottom of the second before Alex Abrams doubled to put a pair of runners in scoring position. Lane Braeden Burbage followed with a triple to right to start the fireworks. Napoleon Roberson then laid down a squeeze bunt to move the lead to 3-0.

Kendall Hannah and Kayla Montz each were hit by pitches in the third before Taylor Smith singled to move the lead to 4-0. Emily Schroeder scored on an Abrams grounder for the 6-0 advantage.

Abrams opened the bottom of the fifth by redirecting a 1-2 pitch to a landing spot beyond the left field fence for a solo homer. Tiffany McInnis and Abby Grace Cameron walked around a Wessie Jacobs double to load the bases for Hannah, who doubled in two runs for the 9-0 advantage. Two batters later, Natalie Tatum his a sacrifice fly to drive in Cameron for the final run of the game.

Montz picked up the win, striking out nine batters and scattering two hits over four innings of work. Tatum finished it off with three strikeouts in one inning of work.

Demopolis (16-10) travels to Central-Tuscaloosa Thursday before hosting Thomasville Monday.
