Lady Tigers romp over Selma

Demopolis (3-6-1, 1-0) opened area play with a 10-0 rout of Selma Thursday afternoon in a contest that ended in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Lady Tigers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Sydney Colyar ripped a single to left that plated Victoria Washburn.

Demopolis added three to the board in the home half of the second in an inning that began with a Zoe Lewis single. Lewis gave way to courtesy runner Zarquashia Taylor, who ultimately scored on a passed ball.

Jade Montgomery walked and scored on a RBI groundout by Olivia Brame. Courtney Lawrence walked and scored on Washburn’s RBI grounder.

Lewis drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the third, again giving way to Taylor as the courtesy runner. Taylor moved to second on a passed ball and reached third on an error before scoring on Lawrence’s RBI grounder.

Riley King drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the fourth before moving to third on a Danielle Tatum double and scoring on an error. Colyar reached on an error and came around to score on a fielder’s choice from Jade Montgomery. A two-run single from Lawrence plated Taylor and Montgomery to leave the Lady Tigers up 10-0.

Demopolis punctuated the game with two outs in the fifth when Colyar tripled before scoring on a passed ball.

Lewis handled the pitching duties in the game, striking out nine Selma batters while scattering four hits and walking none.

The Lady Tigers are scheduled to host Clarke County Friday at 4 p.m.
