Lady Tigers blitz Holt for 17-2 victory

Demopolis (16-9) rolled over Holt Wednesday evening for a 17-2 home win. The Lady Tigers scored two runs in each of the first, third and fourth innings and erupted for 11 in the second frame.

“Kayla has a done a good job. She’s young. All of our pitchers are,” Demopolis coach Brittany Dunson said. “For them to be able to come out and throw a full game is really crucial for us. For her to get some innings in for us today, it’s really a big deal.”

Kayla Montz picked up the win, striking out nine and surrendering three hits and no earned runs in the effort.

Courtney Smith went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs. Jessica Adams was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Abbey Latham finished 2-for-4 with a homer, four RBIs and two runs scored.

Eighth grader Anna Katherine Aldridge went 1-for-2 with her first career homer, two runs scored and one RBI. Natalie Tatum scored a pair of runs and drove one in.

Taylor Smith scored a run. Kendall Hannah was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Montz helped herself with a 1-for-3 day that included a run scored and one driven in.

Napoleon Roberson scored a run while Elly Brown was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBIs. The Lady Tigers got a pair of stolen bases from Latham and two from Courtney Smith.

The victory followed a 2-0 win over Thomasville Monday in which Tatum struck out 15 batters and allowed only two hits over seven shutout innings.

Taylor Smith was 1-for-3 with a homer in that game. Courtney Smith went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Adams, Montz and Brown each went 1-for-2.

The Lady Tigers are set to host Hale County Friday evening.
