Lady Longhorns win Macon-East Montgomery tournament

CECIL ā€” Marengo Academy (12-5) won the Macon-East Montgomery tournament Saturday by downing Glenwood twice in the championship round.

The Lady Longhorns defeated No. 1 ranked Macon-East Friday to earn their date with No. 2 Glenwood Saturday.

In the final game of the day, Marengo dropped Glenwood 4-1. Andrea Edmonds worked five innings, scattering seven hits and a walk while striking out six in the contest.

The Lady Longhorns staked Edmonds to an early lead as Chander Stenz led off the game with a double before Anna Michael Crocker belted a two-run homer.

Stenz finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Crocker was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Edmonds was 1-for-2 at the plate with a walk. Macey Petrey went 1-for-3 with a run. Caitlin Andrews and Kimberly Moore each finished 1-for-3. Conner Etheridge scored a run and Brooke Smyly drew a walk in the game.

The Lady Longhorns opened the day with a 5-1 win over Glenwood. Edmonds struck out five over six innings in that contest, giving up four hits and issuing no walks.

Moore provided the power in that game with a two-run shot. Stenz went 1-for-3. Crocker was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Etheridge was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Petrey finished 1-for-2 with a double. Smyly scored a run. Andrews went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

The Lady Longhorns lost the second game of the day, falling 8-1 to Glenwood. Stenz went 2-for-3 in that game with a triple and a run scored. Crocker was 1-for-3 with one RBI and a stolen base. Edmonds, Etheridge and Andrews each finished the contest 1-for-2.

The Lady Longhorns are set to resume play Tuesday, April 1 when they travel to Butler to play Patrician.
