Lady Longhorns trample Meadowview

LINDEN — Marengo Academy (8-4) picked up a key win over Meadowview Christian Tuesday with an 8-1 victory behind a complete game from Andrea Edmonds.

“Defensively, we’re okay. Andrea is strong and we’re kind of riding her a bit right now,” Marengo coach Danny Stenz said of his team’s state through the first half of the season.

Edmonds was again strong in the circle Tuesday, striking out 11 over seven innings while surrendering just three hits, one walk and an unearned run.

Chandler Stenz went 1-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs, two walks and a stolen base. Anna Michael Crocker went 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI. Mary Jordan Drake scored as a courtesy runner for Crocker.

Brooke Smyly was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, a walk and two runs scored. Edmonds finished 1-for-2 with two walks.

Payton Stokes went 1-for-3 with a run scored, a walk and a RBI. Kimberly Moore scored a run and was hit by a pitch three times. Caitlin Andrews finished 1-for-4 with a run scored.

As the Lady Longhorns ready for a weekend tournament in Cecil at Macon-East Montgomery, they’ll spend much of the week looking to improve an offense that has struggled for much of the season.

“As far as hitting, we’re not near where we need to be by any stretch of the imagination,” Danny Stenz said. “We’re getting a hit here and there but we’re not putting anything together. We’re really hitting bad pitches right now. We’re just not strong all through the lineup right now.”

Marengo Academy is set to open its tournament play this weekend against Hooper Academy at 12:30 p.m. on the campus of Macon-East Montgomery.
