Lady Longhorns thump Patrician

LINDEN — Marengo Academy (21-1) polished off a perfect run through region play Thursday night as the Lady Longhorns drilled visiting Patrician Academy 56-38.

Marengo hung double digit points on the board in each quarter to put the Lady Saints clearly in its rearview mirror. The Lady Longhorns suffocated Patrician early in the second half, keeping PA scoreless in the frame until the 2:58 mark.

Patrician made its strongest run of the night to open the fourth quarter when it sniped a pair of three-pointers to cut the lead to 14. PA would get no closer as Marengo called a timeout to make an adjustment and reestablished control of the contest.

Brooke Smyly led Marengo with 19 points while Conner Etheridge had 13 points and six rebounds. Andrea Edmonds added 11 points for Marengo Academy. Chandler Stenz finished with nine for the Lady Longhorns.

Gabby George led Patrician with 16 points while Haley Dogett contributed 13.

The Lady Longhorns will next travel to Tuscaloosa Academy before heading to Monroeville for the region tournament next week, an even that will be held on the campus of Alabama Southern.
