Lady Longhorns beat Patrician, win Region 2 tourney

SELMA — Marengo Academy (19-5) took the AISA Class A Region 2 tournament crown Friday with an 8-2 win over Patrician Academy.

Andrea Edmonds worked a complete game, scattering three hits and striking out six while giving up one earned run.

Chandler Stenz went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs, a stolen base and two runs scored. Anna Michael Crocker finished 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.

Conner Etheridge was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Andrea Edmonds finished 2-for-3 with one RBI, a walk, a double and a triple.

Mary Jordan Drake scored a run. Brooke Smyly went 1-for-3 with one RBI, a walk, a stolen base and a run scored.

Macey Petrey drove in a run. Hannah Freeman walked, had one RBI and scored two runs. Kimberly Moore went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base while Payton Stokes finished 1-for-3.

The win gives the Lady Longhorns the No. 1 seed out of Region 2 as they head into next week’s state championship tournament. Marengo is set to begin play Friday at Lagoon Park in Montgomery as it seeks its fifth consecutive AISA title.
