Kentucky receiver transferring to UWA

rp_primary_Daryl_CollinsLIVINGSTON –Daryl Collins, a wide receiver from Gadsden, Ala., has transferred from Kentucky to play football at the University of West Alabama. Collins is enrolled in classes and will be eligible immediately.

At 5-11, 205-pounds, Collins played in all 12 games as a redshirt freshman at Kentucky in 2012. He caught 17 passes for 171 yards, including making seven catches for 64 yards against Louisville in his first game as a Wildcat. He also returned kickoffs and punts for the Wildcats.

“Daryl Collins is an extremely exciting player,” UWA head coach Brett Gilliland said. “We are thrilled to have his playmaking ability in our program and I know he will be a great fit on and off the field.”

Collins played high school football at Gadsden City High School, where he was a three-year starter and a member of the Birmingham News “Super Seniors” list after catching 27 passes for 483 yards and four touchdowns. . He averaged 20.5 yards per catch as a junior and played in the annual Alabama-Mississippi High School All-Star Game following his senior season.

Listed as one of the top 20 prospects in Alabama by Scout.com, Collins also played basketball in high school and was an honor roll student. The Sports Management major joins a UWA receiving corps that includes returning wideout Chad Toocheck and tight end Ty Morgan, both All-Gulf South Conference selections in 2013.
