James, Landrum garner All-OVC honors

The Jacksonville State Gamecocks placed eight players on the the Ohio Valley Conference all-conference squads Tuesday. Included among that group are two Marengo County natives.

DaMarcus James, the Gamecocks’ leading rusher, earned a spot on the All-OVC First Team. James, a Demopolis High alum, had a record-breaking junior season after he set the Ohio Valley Conference and school records with 23 rushing touchdowns. He also became just the 12th player in JSU history to top 1,000 rushing yards in a single-season with a total of 1,180 yards on 231 carries, which was the sixth best single-season rushing performance. He has scored a rushing touchdown in nine straight games of the season to set another school record, while he also now holds the school’s single-season scoring record with a total of 138 points through the 12-game regular-season schedule.

Sweet Water alum Chris Landrum, a Jacksonville State defensive end, was named to the All-OVC Newcomer squad and is tied with teammate Caleb Lawrence for the JSU lead with five sacks, while also registering 10.5 tackles for loss. Landrum also has four quarterback hurries and one pass breakup while finishing with 38 total tackles.

Jacksonville State continues its season with a playoff tilt against Samford Saturday evening.
