Is Linden bypass a done deal? Ivey to break ground Friday for West Alabama Corridor

Last week the Alabama Department of Transportation announced a meeting for Monday, Nov. 15, to explain a proposed Linden Bypass connecting U.S. Hwy. 43 from south of the county seat with Alabama 69 north.

However, Gov. Kay Ivey will lead a groundbreaking ceremony for what is called the West Alabama Corridor on Friday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Linden Industrial Park.

The meeting scheduled for Monday was explained as an opportunity for the public β€œto participate in the transportation planning process of the proposed project.”

It is unclear if the ceremony Friday means the contracts to build the proposed bypass already have been awarded. Also unknown is whether the proposed four-lane highway will continue north on Alabama 69 or join U.S. 43 and extend to Demopolis.

In case of inclement weather, the ceremony Friday will move to the Marengo County Business Development Center, 2400 E. Coats Ave. The come-and-go meeting on Monday will be held Center from 4-7 p.m. Representatives from ALDOT will be on hand to answer questions.
