Human remains believed tied to Wilcox County murder six years ago

Human remains, including a skull and several bones, now are in the hands of the FBI for identification.

Hunters found a skull Oct. 30 on Big Buck Road just north of Dixons Mills. Further searching on Nov. 6 uncovered more bones and clothing.

Marengo County Sheriff Richard Bates said all evidence points to a murder six years ago in Wilcox County, but until the FBI completes its testing, he will not release the identity of the victim.

DNA is being used because the dental records of the suspected victim have been destroyed. Results of the testing are not expected for about two months.

Taking part in the search were Texas Equusearch, Jackson Police Department’s 1st Judicial Circuit Major Crimes Unit, Clarke County Sheriff’s Department, Thomasville Police Department and Marengo County Fire and Rescue Agency.

Sheriff Bates thanked all of the agencies and people involved in the hard work in processing and collecting the scene.
