Huckabee earns Player of the Week
Running for 223 yards and four touchdowns on nine carries in addition to returning a punt 60 yards for a score is a great game by anyone’s standards. Doing it all in the first half is on a whole different level.
That is exactly what Marengo Academy sophomore Hayden Huckabee did last week against Sparta Academy before retiring to the sideline with just under six minutes left in the second quarter.
Huckabee has been a vital part of the Longhorns on defense, from the running back spot and in the quarterback rotation as they’ve trampled their way to an 8-0 record this season.
For his efforts, Huckabee earned the ESPN 104.9 West Alabama Coaches Show Player of the Week honor, a distinction that was recognized at Batter Up Sports Grill in Demopolis Tuesday night.
The Longhorns host Sumter Academy Friday night.
