The Sweet Water Bulldogs used a 349-yard ground attack to inch past Millry Friday night, 35-34.

The Bulldogs struck first in Wildcat territory when Jaland Lewis Horton punched it in from a yard out at the 5:52 mark in the first quarter. Michael Alan Cole’s PAT made it 7-0.

Horton went on to account for four of five touchdowns on the night, with the final touchdown coming when Braiden Broussard connected with Jaden Lewis from 25 yards out, giving the Bulldogs all they’d need to get past the Wildcats.

With 2:32 left to play, Millry’s Ben Lockhart hauled it 32 yards to bring the Wildcats within one point, 35-34. Rather than tie the game with a PAT, the Wildcats elected to attempt a two-point conversion, which failed, giving the ‘Dawgs the ball and the single point victory.

Sweet Water ended the night with 432 yards of total offense, 349 of which came on the ground. Horton accounted for 191 yards on 30 rush attempts with four touchdowns, followed by Xavier Lucy with 80 yards on 12 attempts.

Broussard completed 4 of 8 attempts for 83 yards and a touchdown through the air.

Horton’s single punt of the night was 33 yards.

Sweet Water (4-0, 2-0) goes on to play Choctaw County next Friday.
