Gloria Sue Jordan Slade

Gloria Sue Jordan Slade of Magnolia, passed away quietly on May 17, 2017. She was 70 years old. Born in Selma on August 8, 1946, Sue was the youngest of four children born to Connie Bell and Mattie Ryan Adams Jordan. She attended Huntingdon College for a term before graduating from Hobson Technical School in 1966, worked as an administrative assistant at MacMillan-Bloedel Inc., and then worked in the family store for 11 years. Sue was a longtime member of Magnolia United Methodist Church, an election poll worker for several years, and known throughout the area for her hospitality and cooking. She loved to cross-stitch, was an avid Auburn fan, cared for several dogs and cats, and hosted dozens of hunters and their families over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and older brothers, Thomas Lowell Jordan and Harlan Marcus Jordan.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Winfred “Winky” Frank Slade; sons Jason Brent and Jordan Kent Slade; daughter, Kim Slade Whorton (Ben), three grandchildren Zoe, Megan, and Clay Whorton; sister, Wynell Jordan Sachs (Werner) and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces. Pallbearers are Marc Sachs (Washington, D.C.), Walter Sachs (Tallahassee, FL), Matt Lewis (Sweet Water), Trey Salatto (Auburn), Terry Norton (Thomasville), Matthew Lewis (Sweet Water), Thomas Lewis (Sweet Water), and Marcus Gray Norton (Thomasville).

The family will receive visitors on Saturday, May 20th, from 10am until 11am and will be followed by a service at the O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home, Thomasville, AL, with burial to follow at the Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Magnolia Cemetery Fund, PO Box 62, Magnolia, AL 36754.
