Gibson named new DMS principal; Hester becomes Curriculum Coordinator

When school begins next month, Demopolis Middle School will have a new principal.

In a called meeting Monday, the Demopolis City Schools Board of Education hired Dr. Gary Gibson to assume the duties of principal effective Aug. 1. Current principal Derrick Hester will become Curriculum Coordinator for the school system on the same date.

Gibson comes to Demopolis from Phenix City. He holds a doctorate in education from Auburn University and a certification in school administration from Austin-Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn.

Other personnel matters took up the rest of the meeting.

Resignations accepted were from Thomasene Russell, USJ aide, and Haley Higginbotham, WES aide.

Joshua Thacker is transferring from Career Prep teacher to teaching history at DHS.

Hired under conditional employment were Matthew Loper, DHS history; Julian L. Gaston, DHS Career Prep teacher; Kayla Sommers, WES teacher, and Yolanda Eaton, USJ aide.
