Get ready for Bands on the River 2018

On Saturday, Sept. 29, Demopolis High School will host Bands on the River 2018 on the campus of Demopolis High School. The event will feature 13 bands, including 11 bands that will be competing during the event and two bands which will perform in exhibition. The event is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. and conclude at 7:30 p.m. General admission is $6, with student admission $5 and children age four and under get in free.

Competing bands will present a 10 minute performance, usually consisting of three to four songs. Bands are judged on execution, musical accuracy and overall performance. Seven judges will be adjudicating all bands and trophies will be given for superior performances. A few special surprise awards will be handed out, as well.

Demopolis High School Band Director Demetrius Scott said that parents, staff and students have been working tirelessly to make the event possible. “This is a perfect time to see what a culmination of hundreds of hours of work looks like on the field for up to 10 minutes of performance time. People will see bands performing their halftime shows that they have been working on since mid-summer,” Scott said. Our festival chairperson, Monica Grecu, has done a phenomenal job assembling a large staff to meet the needs of the competition,” Scott added.

There will be a full concession stand available for the event, along with souvenir programs and t-shirts.

“We would love to see you and your families come out and support the River City Blue and music education. I want to send a huge thank you to the Demopolis City Council, Demopolis Police Department, DCS Board of Education, Mr. Kallhoff, and Mr. Hathcock for allowing us to make this possible,” Scott said.
