Free CNA program open at UWA

Classes begin Sept. 7 for the University of West Alabama’s WIOA Career Pathways for Youth: Certified Nursing Assistant. The program is completely free for those accepted into the program. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, Aug. 24.

The CNA program is open to individuals between the ages of 18 and 24 who are out of school.  At completion, all participants will have:  

  • Passed a background check and drug screen  
  • Received a TB skin test and physical  
  • Earned Basic Life Support (CPR) certification  
  • Earned National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC)  
  • Earned 10-Hour OSHA Safety Certification (Healthcare track) 
  • Exceeded ADPH and federal requirements for CNA training  
  • Earned the UWA CNA Certificate of Completion, qualifying them to sit for the Alabama National Nurse Aide Assessment  

Participants in this program also receive:

  • Weekly transportation and internet support
  • Five pairs of nursing scrubs
  • Mentorship and career counseling for 12 months after completing the program
