Five Marengo County players named on ASWA all-state list
The Alabama Sports Writers Association released its annual All-State Basketball Teams Sunday morning. A number of players from around west Alabama received recognition. Two coaches received Coach of the Year honors.
Sunshine boys basketball coach Walter Jones is the Class 1A Coach of the Year. Marengo Academy’s Danny Stenz is the AISA Girls Coach of the Year.
Marengo County saw five players receive recognition for their seasons. Imoras Agee, a senior from Linden High School, earned Second Team honors in Class 1A for the second consecutive year.
Marengo Academy point guard Chandler Stenz helped lead her team to a 27-0 season and a state championship. Her efforts earned her AISA Second Team honors for a second straight season.
Marengo High’s Alesia Bowser averaged 19 points and 13 rebounds a game, taking an honorable mention nod for Class 1A Girls.
Marengo Academy center Brooke Smyly took an honorable mention distinction. Marengo Academy sophomore Cason Cook averaged 13 rebounds a game and took an honorable mention nod in the AISA.
