Fire guts old station

Fire gutted the old Demopolis Police Station on U.S. Highway 43 North Wednesday evening.

The call came in at 6:49 p.m., according to DFD Chief Keith Murray. Fire crews put out the blaze within ten minutes.

While the site where the fire started was located, Murray said the cause is undetermined.

The building, which had been in disrepair, was no longer in use. The annex formerly used as a city court and the Christmas on the River warehouse had no damage.
