Expungement clinic set Friday in Boligee

BOLIGEE – Legal Services Alabama (LSA) is continuing its Road to Redemption series of expungement clinics in Greene County to provide free services for people with certain misdemeanor charges. The next clinic will be Friday, June 3, from 2-6 p.m. in the Boligee Community Center, 17404 County Road 20.

Expungements are especially important during the current eviction crisis, as even minor criminal records can impact a person’s ability to find stable and quality housing.

Qualified participants will be able to start their expungement process at the clinic, and some may be completed free of the standard $25 fee from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

LSA attorneys will also be available to help with Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) applications and discuss other housing questions for those struggling with an eviction.

This Road to Redemption expungement clinic is co-sponsored by community partner Anikia Coleman. The LSA law firm provides free, client-centered, civil legal advocacy to low-income Alabamians and collaborates with others across the state and nation to find solutions to systemic issues caused by poverty and social justice inequities.

LSA is one of the preeminent legal aid organizations in the country in bridging the civil justice gap through its recognized commitment to racial, social and economic justice. It handles civil cases only. Each office has lawyers licensed to practice in Alabama and other staff who know how to help low-income people resolve their legal problems.
