Event to boost small businesses set Saturday

From an idea presented by a local retailer has grown a special event to showcase local small businesses.

On Saturday, Jan. 30, The Hangout by the Garage, 117 E. Washington St., will host what is hoped to be many such events to support Demopolis area businesses.

Ten booths will offer items for sale and information on their businesses from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Their specialties include jewelry, catering, gifts, foods, finance, real estate and insurance.

Owners of The Hangout, sisters Barbara Raymond and Aggie Scott, are providing door prizes and holding a drawing for a special Valentine Gift Basket to people who attend what they refer to as a Commerce Event.

Raymond said several other local businesses had contacted them about setting up booths, but space limited the number that could be accommodated. She said they plan to schedule similar Commerce Events in the near future.

The businesses that will be highlighted are:

  • Peach Blossom Emporium, jewelry.
  • T&M Catering.
  • Lawanda Keller, gifts.
  • Sonia Wilkins, Treatz Catering.
  • Trenekia Taylor, finance.
  • Shonda Cottrell, real estate.
  • Latrice Phillips, virtual assistance bookkeeping.
  • Charlene Rowser, jellies and jams.
  • Marengo Co-Op, cane syrup and goat soap.
  • Latasha Taylor, gift baskets.
