ESPN 104.9 recognizes Cedric Cooks

With only 13 players on the John Essex roster, every Hornet gets a chance to contribute in a big way this season. Friday night in a key region game against county foe Marengo High, Cedric Cooks took advantage of his opportunity.

Cooks, the John Essex quarterback, rushed for two touchdowns in the contest. But, perhaps more impressively, he recorded 18 total tackles and intercepted two passes on the defensive side of the ball.

A self-professed basketball player by trade, Cooks has embraced his leadership role on the gridiron for the Hornets in the early going of the 2012 season. His performance was enough to garner him Player of the Week honors from The Coaches Show on ESPN 104.9.

The station recognized Cooks Tuesday when it went on the air at 7 p.m. As with all ESPN 104.9 honorees this season, Cooks received a commemorative T-shirt and was treated to a free meal.
