DMS student elected state junior beta president, Demopolis clubs fare well

Mary-Mclain Colgrove, left, with her campaign team. Colgrove, a Demopolis Middle School student, was elected as the State Junior Beta Club president.Demopolis Middle School and Demopolis High School Junior Beta Clubs traveled to Birmingham March 9-11 to attend and compete at the State Convention.

While there, students competed in several areas. Demopolis Middle School was in the Top 10 for the following competitions: Living Literature, Banner, T-shirt and Social Studies.

Demopolis High School was in the Top Ten for Math and Poster. The clubs also came home with some big wins. The DMS club received first place in the Banner competition. Mary-McClain Colgrove and her campaign team won first place in Campaign and second place in Campaign Speech. Colgrove was also elected the State Junior Beta Club President.

IMG_9040“These students have worked since August to raise money and prepare for State Competition,” Meggin Mayben, DMS Beta Club sponsor, said. “Now, they are invited to compete at the National level in Richmond, Va., June 20-25.”

Colgrove will run for National Junior Beta Club President and the Banner team will compete as well. The cost will be close to $500 per student. Students will be fundraising and asking for donations for the next few months.
