DMS softball finishes home slate with win

Demopolis Middle School wrapped up its regular season home slate Friday with a 4-3 win over Sweet Water.DMS vs SWMS softball-5950

Courtney Smith reached on a single in the first and came around to score on a fielder’s choice by Macey Petrey. Demopolis added to the lead in the second when Kendall Hannah reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a Caitlin Thrash single.

Abbey Latham singled in the third and scored on a Hannah single for the Lady Tigers’ third run. Demopolis got singles from Julia Veres, Lara Little and Hannah in the fifth but failed to score.

The Lady Tigers got the ever-important fourth run in the sixth when Smith dropped down a push bunt with two strikes before cashing in on the opportunity when Latham ripped a double.

Sweet Water got one run in the third and two in the seventh.

Natalie Tatum worked all seven innings in the circle for Demopolis, scattering six hits and striking out four while allowing just two earned runs.
Petrey finished with one RBI. Veres was 1-for-2 with a walk. Little went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Hannah went 2-for-3 with two singles, one RBI and a run scored. Mary-Michael Bradley went 1-for-3 with a single.

Caitlin Thrash finished 1-for-4 with a RBI. Smith went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and two runs scored. Latham went 2-for-4 with a single, a double, one RBI and a run scored.

The Lady Tigers also went 2-1 at a tournament in West Blocton Saturday, downing Emerson and splitting two games with host West Blocton.
