DMS awards bikes to students for academic and social growth

Demopolis Middle School students, recognized for exhibiting social and academic growth for the fall 2021 semester, received bicycles for their achievements.

The honored students are: 6th grade, Ziareonna Kirk and Jayden Harris; 7th grade, Janiya Calhoun and Thomaston Blakey, and 8th grade, Jamya Brooks and Johan Justo.

Demopolis Middle School students awarded bikes for academic, social achievements.

At the beginning of the semester principal Dr. Gary Gibson decided he wanted to motivate students to improve interpersonal and academic skills. With the help of DMS teachers and the local community, the “Racing Towards a Better You” award was born.

A girl and boy student from each grade was received a new bicycle and helmet for their dedication and hard work this semester. The bicycles and helmets were donated by local churches and community members.

DMS would like to thank Fairhaven Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church, Drs. Gary and Danna M. Gibson, and Mr. and Mrs. Jeff McAfee for their donation of new bicycles to the deserving students. Thanks also goes to Jay Shows’s Co-Ed II Sunday School class for donating new helmets to the students.
