DHS team wins 2nd in Financial Football Fitness tourney

Three students from Demopolis High School placed second in a Financial Football Fitness Tournament hosted by the League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU).

The local team, sponsored by Naheola Credit Union, competed against another team from Alabama and two teams from Florida. A total of 44 teams competed for a chance to go to Orlando, but the other 40 were eliminated based on their scores.

Patrick Hall, Jordan Hobson and Haley Hoggle were coached by their teacher, Kelly Freeman Gandy.

This marks the first time for not only the Credit Union to help sponsor a team but for a team from DHS to compete in this type of tournament. The students walked away with $500 each plus a t-shirt. Hotel and travel expenses for the team were covered.

“To say Naheola Credit Union is proud would be an understatement,” said Mark Johnson, CEO. “At Naheola Credit Union, we believe in the importance of educating the communities we serve, both adults and students alike, on financial related topics in order to improve their daily lives and better prepare them for the future.”

Johnson continued, “We are excited to work with Mrs. Gandy as well as, Ms. Juli Lewis of the Southeastern Credit Union Foundation to help provide this opportunity for these students.”
