DHS River City Blue lights up San Antonio

Demopolis River City Blue marched in San Antonio’s 2022 the Fiesta Flambeau parade April 9, the climax of a four-day visit to the city and its celebration of the heroes of the Alamo.

River City Blue sparkled as the band marched through San Antonio.

Jessica Dial, Band Booster Club president, said the group arrived early Thursday morning, April 7, and visited the Alamo and the River Walk that afternoon. They also took in Sea World and ate dinner at Dave and Busters on Friday. Saturday morning was a trip to Six Flags, and Saturday night was the main event, the largest illuminated night parade and the final event of Fiesta.

“There were 750,000 people in the crowd and 1.5 million watching online,” said Dial. “The crowd cheered for us every step, encouraged us towards the end when we were tired, welcomed us a million times, and thanked us.”

The band visited The Alamo on its first day in San Antonio.

The band decorated its uniforms and instruments with lights, adding to the festive atmosphere of the event.

“We heard the crowd yelling ‘go Alabama,’ ‘War Eagle’ one time, and “Roll Tide” a bunch,” added Dial. “Texas was extremely welcoming and kind. They truly made us feel like rock stars, and the River City Blue performed beautifully.”
