DHS FBLA earns top state honors

Demopolis High School FBLA chapter brought home Most Outstanding Chapter in Alabama honors from the state Future Business Leaders of America leadership conference.

The chapter also was recognized for donating more than $2,000 to the March of Dimes, being the second largest chapter in District III, achieving the outstanding level of the Blueprint for Success and for being a Gold Seal chapter.

Brianna Doss and Riley House received pins for reaching the Business level of the Business Achievement Awards. Recognized for their Future level were Sofia Aplicano, Wezzi Hughes, John Laney, Zahyra Mancilla-Otera, Alli Orloff, Taylor Quinney, Avery Schumacher and Sydney Smith.

Five students had a minimum of 50 hours of community service: Molly Katherine Harrison, Buckley Nettles, Sydney Smith, Sara Jordan and Brianna Doss.

Earning a top four place in their competitive events were:

  • Janey Wiley Wright, first in Healthcare Administration.
  • Sara Jordan, first in Insurance and Risk Management.
  • Haley Jackson, first in Introduction to Event Planning.
  • Neely Atkinson, first in Introduction to FBLA.
  • Trey Bucurel, firest in Introduction to Financial Math.
  • Sofia Aplicano, first in Introduction to Parliamentary Procedures.
  • Abbie Hathcock, first in Public Speaking.
  • Molly Katherine Harrison, second in Accounting II.
  • Michael Reynolds, second in Agribusiness.
  • John Laney, second in Introduction to Business.
  • Anna Rene Lewis, second in Introduction to FBLA.
  • Sydney Smith, second in Personal Finance.
  • Allie Busby, third in Accounting I.
  • Mary Jordan, third in Introduction to Business.
  • Emilee Paul, third in Introduction to Business Communications.
  • Neela Larkin, third in Introduction to Parliamentary Procedures.
