Demopolis track has strong showing at sectional meet

Demopolis had a strong showing in the 4A-7A Sectional Meet at South Alabama last weekend. The Tiger track stars saw the 4×800 girls relay team of Audrey Boykin, Gracie Boykin, Amindy Mullen and Keyjana Waller take second place. The 4×100 quartet of Ashleigh Ivory, Yasmin Rainey, Kamryn Harris and Nykeria Grayer took third. The Tiger girls took first in the 4×400 with the foursome of Darnesha Harris, Keyjana Waller, Ke’Shunda Walker and Kamryn Harris.

The boys relay teams also fared well as Logan McVay, Mandrell Rembert, Darius Williams and Alexander Besteder took second in the boys 4×100. The Tiger boys also won the 4×400.

Individual events on the girls side saw Darnesha Harris take first in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles as well as second in the triple jump. Ivory took first in the 100-meter dash and the long jump while finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles.

Gracie Boykin was fifth in the 1600. Yasmein Rainey took fourth in the 300-menter hurdles. Waller finished third in the 400-meter dash. Dezmarie Jones took second in shotput and fourth in discus. Samantha Williams won shotput and placed fifth in discus. Walker took fourth in shotput.

Besteder was fifth in the 100-meter dash. Williams took sixth in the 200. Rembert won the 400-meter. Khyrim Bryant placed first in shotput while Chris Williams took third. The Tigers have 20 athletes at the state meet in Gulf Shores this weekend.
