Demopolis tops Sweet Water in low-scoring affair

Demopolis did all of its scoring early en route to a 3-0 win over county rival Sweet Water Thursday.

Demopolis 3, Sweet Water 0

Playing their first game in a week, the Tigers opened with a leadoff double from Chandler Barton to ignite a two-run rally. Barton scored on a single by R.J. Cox to give Demopolis a 1-0 lead. Hunter Colyar later scored on a passed ball to set the advantage at 2-0. Barton doubled again in the second inning before scoring on another Cox single to make it 3-0.

The offensive effort coupled with a triple play the Tigers turned in the bottom of the third proved to be enough to hand Colyar the win. The Demopolis hurler threw 71 pitches for a complete game, five-hit shutout that included four strikeouts.

Demopolis amassed 11 hits in the contest including a 3-for-4 day from Barton that featured two doubles and a pair of runs scored.

Cox went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Rodrigues was 1-for-3. Jonathon Lewis went 1-for-4. Wesley Allgood was 2-for-4. Demetrious Davis finished 1-for-3.

Sweet Water notched five hits in the game, getting a single apiece from Jonah Smith, Wynn Thompson, Branson Davis, Braden Broussard and Shamar Lewis.

Jackson 1, Sweet Water 0

The loss followed a Tuesday contest that resulted in a 1-0 eight-inning defeat at the hands of Jackson. The game ended with a bases-loaded walk to score the only run of the night.

The result came despite a terrific effort from Smith, who allowed only two hits and a walk while striking out six over seven shutout innings. The Bulldogs also managed five singles in that game including hits from Will Huckabee, Hunter Mendenhall, Luke Davis, Thompson and Lewis.
