Demopolis schools closed Thursday

Demopolis City Schools will be closed Thursday, Jan. 30 in view of continued icing of the local roadways.

“After collaboration with Chief Tommie Reese and monitoring the weather while checking the campuses and roads, I feel it is best to air on the side of safety and cancel school tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014,” Demopolis City Schools Superintendent Dr. Al Griffin said via email Wednesday. ” The roads and campus sidewalks will freeze again tonight and travel on the streets and walking on the sidewalks will again be hazardous in the morning and most of the day tomorrow. I will apply for a waiver through the State Department of Education for a release from having to make these days up due to the Governor’s called State of Emergency. I, along with Board President Jim Stanford, will file the appropriate paperwork on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 to be forgiven for the missed days. Thank you for your patience and cooperation with this matter. Stay safe and off the roads.”

Thursday will mark the third consecutive days weather conditions have prevented Demopolis City Schools operations.
