Demopolis Public Library hosting Book Fair fundraiser

The Demopolis Public Library is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair fundraiser the week of July 14-18 in the first floor meeting room of the library.

With the look and feel of a bustling bookstore, this week-long book fair will feature mobile cases full of affordable books based on characters and subjects kids love and want to read about. From newly-released books and best sellers to award-winning titles and perennial favorites, the library will have books for children, teens and adults at affordable prices. Scholastic provides the books, planning tools and display cases for the events, which are run by librarians and volunteers.

“Children’s Librarian Kelley Tarpley had the idea to bring the book fair to our library after seeing Clifford the Big Red Dog on the side of the Scholastic truck parked at West Alabama Christian School this spring”, says Library Director Morgan Allen. “Kelley is constantly thinking of new ways to promote our library and literacy in our community.”

The book fair will be open July 14-18 from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Clifford the Big Red Dog will be at the library each day during the book fair at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Books can also be purchased online at http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/demopolispubliclibrary. The library will add this link to its webpage and Facebook page. The book fair goal is to help our community purchase and read 1,000 books. Every purchase directly helps the library. Funds raised from the book fair will be used to purchase books for our library.

Do you love books? Volunteer to help at the Book Fair. You can decorate and set up, help kids select books, work on refreshments, give a book talk, or help pack up. There are lots of ways to participate! If you are 16 years or older and interested in volunteering, contact Morgan or Kelley at 334-289-1595.
