Demopolis man fatally injured in crash; driver injured

Demopolis resident Javiya Lamar McGrew, 23, died in a single-vehicle crash at approximately 2:35 a.m. Saturday, July 3. The crash occurred on U.S. Hwy. 80 near the 26 mile marker, approximately eight miles west of Demopolis.

McGrew was fatally injured when the 2014 Toyota Camry in which he was a passenger left the roadway and struck a tree. He was not using a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, Lamarcus Markell Monghan, 27, of Gallion, was injured and transported to Whitfield Regional Hospital for treatment.

Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
