Demopolis makes quick work of Central for Area 7 win

Demopolis (7-5, 1-0) rolled through its first Class 5A, Area 7 game of the season Wednesday with a 15-0 victory over Central-Tuscaloosa. Demopolis scored tallied four hits while scoring nine runs in the first inning and six in the second in the three-inning game.

Demopolis capitalized on two hit batsmen and 12 walks over two innings. Weezie Hughes, Kendall Hannah and Elly Brown each picked up two RBIs while Napoleon Roberson, Natalie Tatum, Kayla Montz, Lane Braeden Burbage and Wessie Lee Jacobs each drove in one run.

Roberson scored three runs as Hughes, Hannah, Montz and Caroline Larkin each scored two. Brown, Tatum, Burbage and Jacobs once apiece. The Tigers’ four singles came from Hughes, Hannah, Brown and Tatum.

Montz picked up the win, striking out five over two innings of work while allowing one hit and an unearned run. Hannah struck out two over one inning of work.

Demopolis is set to travel to Corinth, Miss. Friday for a weekend tournament before hosting Sweet Water Monday.
