Demopolis, Linden, Marengo schools as well as MA, UWA closing at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday

Demopolis City Schools, Marengo County Schools, Linden City Schools and Marengo Academy will all be closing at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday due to the threat of inclement weather. Robertson Banking Company issued a statement that all of its branches will close at 1 p.m. Tuesday. First Bank of Linden also indicated it will close at 1 p.m.

A severe weather system rolled through Marengo County Monday night and during the early morning hours Tuesday.

Another storm system is projected to make its way into the county during the afternoon hours. All after-school activities have been cancelled as a result.

The University of West Alabama will also be closing at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. The university released the following regarding its schedule changes.

The University of West Alabama will close at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday in response to the threat of severe weather during the afternoon and evening. Classes will be dismissed at 12:15 p.m. This closing also includes the Demopolis Higher Education Center, UWA Campus School and University Cinema.

Evening classes with final exams scheduled for Tuesday are canceled. The exam for April 29 courses will be rescheduled on a course-by-course basis, within the time frame of the Spring 2014 final exam schedule.

In addition to the cancelation of evening classes, two campus events scheduled for the evening have been changed. The Freshman Finale will be rescheduled, and the CAB event, “Clearly You,” scheduled for the afternoon has been canceled.

Young Hall Cafeteria will close at 1 p.m. However, Tiger Alley Deli (located at the Caf) and LUie’s (at Gilbert Hall) will remain open unless a tornado watch is issued.

The Student Union Building (SUB) Fitness Center will remain open until 10 p.m. The main floor of the SUB will remain open unless a tornado watch is issued.

Resident students should follow the emergency relocation plan in place in the event of building evacuations.

The University community is urged to follow the recommendations set forth in the severe weather alerts issued by the National Weather Service.
