Demopolis JV softball bests Hale for fifth straight win

The Demopolis junior varsity softball team extended their win streak to five games Tuesday night with a 7-0 win over Hale County.

The visiting junior Tigers stepped off the bus hot, posting two runs in the top of the first.

Marianna Pearson kicked the game off by getting hit by a pitch, but a grounder from Dani Shepherd saw Pearson tagged out headed for second.

Aerial Irby singled to short, moving Shepherd to second. Both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch and Shepherd scored on a dropped third strike to Emily Schroeder. Irby followed her home on the throw.

Zanadia Wright ushered in the second inning with a two-base shot to right field. Tayler Pipkins reached on a two-base error.

With runners on second and third Pearson singled to center, bringing in Wright.

Another Shepherd grounder brought in Pipkins and pushed Pearson to third. Irby launched a sac-fly to bring Pearson home and give the Tigers a 5-0 lead.

Pipkins opened the fourth inning with a double to right and stole her way to third. Shepherd picked up her second RBI of the night on another grounder that sent Pipkins across the plate and stretched the Tiger lead to 6.

Jamelia Zanders led off the fifth with a triple and Lizzie Cannon brought her in on a bunt up the first base line, putting the Tigers up 7-0.

Cannon got the win, tossing four no-hit innings and picking up three strikeouts along the way. Pipkins came in for one inning in relief, giving up one hit over five batters.
