Demopolis golf team moves to 26-0

The Demopolis High School golf team defeated Monroe County, Excel, J.U. Blacksher and Thomasville Thursday afternoon to run its season record to 26-0.

Braden Spiller led the Tigers with an even par 35 followed closely by Blake Bryant with a two over 37.

Jordan Williams and Chandler Stuedeman each shot a 40. Sam Yeager finished with a 41. Anna Reid and Mark Joseph Johnson each shot a 40 while Jonah Webb finished with a 48.

The Tigers travel to Fayette County Tuesday to play in the Fayette Invitational Tournament against several Alabama and Mississippi teams.

DHS golf coach Mike Black said the Tournament will give the Tigers a little more of a challenge before heading into the sectionals April 28 at the Sylacauga Country Club.

Reid will play in the Sectionals for the 5A girls in Mobile also on April 28 at the Azalea City Golf Course.

“She has a real shot at going to sub-state and beyond,” Black said of the lone female golfer on the Demopolis team.

“The Tigers boys team has been playing together for several years, mostly since the seventh grade,” Black added. “This will be their final shot at their goal of going to state and playing for a state championship. We are going to finish the regular season and continue to work hard for a championship. This is a special group and I feel they have a legitimate chance to go deep into the playoffs if they play up to their abilities.”
